We can amend soil and add mulch to keep the moisture in, as well as use organic sprays for insects
and weeds. In addition, we can prune and trim plants and trees.
Animals especially deer are a constant presence here in Colorado and can be a nuisance. The solutions below are not foolproof but are useful.
We can install scented lawn ornaments and natueral scents to deter deer. We can wrap and protect plants, trees, and even gardens with netting, mesh, or tubing. We can keep plant material trimmed and remove ripe and dropped fruit to stop attracting other animals. we can install plants that are hairy leafed, succulent, or poison flavored to help deter animals especially bears.
We can also install walls, terraces, or raised planting beds so the deer will avoid climbing into the food sources. Fences and hedges that deer cannot see through also help prevent them from coming into the yard. In addition, we can plant garlic, chives, mint, and lavender plants to mask the aroma of nearby annuals, and plant lamb's ear, barberries, and cleome plants through the area to deter deer. Finally we can trade out tulips for daffodils and common roses for Scotch or Ragusa roses.
